Why Tomorrow?

Tomorrow all across the country families come together to enjoy the culinary expertise from the house-masters of such a fine art and at many such events, then settle in front of tube in their favorite easy chair to catnap through their chosen college game. In this day of post-modernism and the political correctness of secular revisionists rewriting history the question looms large, Why?

In 1863 the first of two days of Thanksgiving was proclaimed by Abraham Lincoln after the victory at Gettysburg and a second of November following the New England custom of an autumnal thanksgiving for all the blessings of Providence during the preceding year. It was this latter proclamation establishing a spiritual holiday and the first in the series of Thanksgiving Days we celebrate today, which after being adopted by Congress became a national holiday.

It would serve us well to remember the words and draw upon the wisdom enclosed in this brief proclamation by one of America’s greatest leaders, something this nation so drastically needs today. History records:

The year that is drawing towards its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to invite and provoke the aggression of foreign states, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict, while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. The needful diversion of wealth and strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense has not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship. The axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well as of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect a continuance of years, with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be reverently, solemnly, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and voice, by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea, and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and prayer to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation, and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.

(signed) Abraham Lincoln.

Hope everyone has a truly blessed day.

If You Truly Love America, Take Notice!

I know I’ve been labeled as "extremist" by some who visit, but IMO many are also not seeing the big picture and the April 7  report from DHS. Although it does an injustice to military vets by demeaning them with implications that they are fertile targets for radical, violent groups and that conservatives are inclined towards racism; this speaks nothing of the comments made by the head of DHS, Janet Napolitano.

She linked the hundreds of thousands of returning vets to one (1) nut case, McVeigh that happened to be a vet.  So she made a feeble attempt to apologize for the wording, not the link. In the news conference she held she then went on to say, "we do not — nor will we ever –  monitor ideology or political beliefs."

When you read the report for yourself it is obvious that either she or someone in her charge are not only monitoring the ideologies and political beliefs of conservatives but also poisoning law enforcement agents with a bias against them and suggesting their beliefs lead to violence against the government.

The report came out after a similar remarks by the head of the Missouri Troopers were recently reported. So now if you voted for a third-party candidate, have a bumper sticker on your vehicle advocating pro-life, anti-gay, anti illegal immigration or a Christian religious symbol, if you voice opposing opinions of the current administration and/or its policies; you are scrutinized by law enforcement as possible extremist.

Since when has it been extremism to be voice political opposition or express your faith with a t-shirt with a religious (specifically Christian) symbol? Yes, there have been incidents of abortion clinic bombings and other horrible examples that the opposing side like to point out whenever statements like this are made. But these have been rare and the right-wingers have been just as outspoken against them, if not more so, than those using them as an excuse to justify their accusatory attempts to discredit the ones offering objections to the mischaracterizations.

Since when is being patriotic and operating when in God given, constitutional rights of freedom of speech and the practice of ones faith labeled extremism?  At the risk of incurring the scrutiny of the DHS, as if I haven’t already, I will say the report and statements made Napolitano are outrageous. No one is playing on "fears about several emergent issues" more than the current administration.

The President hasn’t made a speech regarding the economy or while on his overseas ‘apology tour’ that he hasn’t played on those fears and anxieties so he can justify dropping another spending plan, or private industry take-over by the government in the very near future.

If you think this report is unbiased and shouldn’t raise public alarm, how do you explain the fact there was not mention of the whacked out leftist from Hollywood, or any of the members of the other left-wing groups that are guilty of disrupting political conventions, etc. I could go on, but many of you will again blow it off as, whatever it takes to get our agenda implemented and besides this guy is an extremist.

This should make every American that truly loves their country take notice of just what our government is capable of and possibly buy some more ammo. That is what the second amendment was for, remember?
